Beginning with the lush riverbanks of Kitulgala and moving through Kandy’s cultural heartland, the dramatic highlands of Ella, and the thrilling wilderness of Yala, this itinerary connects you with the island’s natural world and living heritage in equal measure. From white-water rafting to whale watching, from ancient cave temples to turtle conservation beaches, every day offers something vivid, meaningful and deeply Sri Lankan.

Day 1 - Bandaranaike Airport→ Eco-boutique hotel Negombo→ Lagoon mangrove walk/kayaking

Touch down at Bandaranaike International Airport and transfer to a thoughtfully designed eco-boutique hotel in Negombo. As the day fades, step out for a calming evening walk through lush mangrove corridors along the lagoon, or glide silently through the waterways by kayak, a perfect, nature-infused welcome to Sri Lanka.

Day 2 - Drive to Kitulgala→ Rainforest walk & river exploration→ Optional live painting

Drive through changing landscapes to Kitulgala, a rainforest destination nestled beside the swirling Kelani River. Check into your eco-lodge and spend the afternoon on a guided walk through the dense jungle canopy. As dusk settles, optional live painting captures the remarkable quality of light filtering through towering tropical trees.

Day 3 - White water rafting - Kelani River→ Optional jungle trekking / waterfall→ Evening by the river

Strap in for white water rafting on the thrilling Kelani River, an exhilarating rush through rapids amid stunning jungle scenery. Alternatively, tackle jungle trekking trails or seek out hidden waterfalls cascading through the forest. The evening is yours to unwind riverside, listening to the sounds of the rainforest at rest.

Day 4 - Drive to Kandy→ Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic→ Lakeside walk / cultural show

Wind upward into the cultural heartland of Kandy, Sri Lanka’s last royal capital. Visit the revered Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic before an evening lakeside walk or a colourful Kandyan cultural performance showcasing traditional drumming, dance, and fire-walking, a deeply evocative introduction to Sinhalese artistic heritage and ceremony.

Day 5 - Royal Botanical Gardens Peradeniya→ Local markets & artisan workshops→ Optional live painting by the lake

Morning at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya, a glorious 147-acre Eden of rare palms, giant bamboo, and spice trees. Explore local markets and artisan workshops in the afternoon. Optionally, set up your easel for a live painting session by the tranquil lake, as Kandy’s enchanting colonial atmosphere provides the backdrop.

Day 6 - Scenic drive/train to Ella→ Tea plantations & waterfalls

Embark by road or scenic train through a landscape of cascading tea estates and misty mountain ranges to reach Ella, a beloved highland village. Capture rolling plantation views and shimmering waterfalls along the way. Arrive in time for a relaxed, unhurried evening at your eco-lodge, breathing in the cool hill country air.

Day 7 - Little Adam's Peak hike→ Nine Arch Bridge→ Optional zip-lining or cycling

Tackle the rewarding morning hike to Little Adam’s Peak, rewarded by sweeping panoramic views across valleys and tea-covered ridges. Visit the famous Nine Arch Bridge, a masterpiece of colonial-era railway engineering. The afternoon offers optional zip-lining through the jungle canopy or a leisurely cycle through the Ella countryside.

Day 8 - Horton Plains National Park →Baker's Falls & World's End trek→ Picnic lunch

Set off early to Horton Plains National Park, a dramatic highland plateau at 2,100 metres. Trek through cloud-forest ecosystems to the awe-inspiring precipice of World’s End, with its sheer 880-metre drop, and Baker’s Falls, a beautiful cascade in the mist. Enjoy a relaxed picnic lunch before returning to Ella for rest.

Day 9 - Drive to the Yala region→ Afternoon jeep safari →Optional live painting

Drive south to the legendary Yala National Park, Sri Lanka’s most celebrated wildlife reserve. An afternoon jeep safari reveals the park’s remarkable diversity – leopards lounging in trees, elephants at waterholes, crocodiles and abundant birdlife. Settle into your eco-safari lodge as the jungle darkens, with optional live painting of the savannah.

Day 10 - Drive to Mirissa / Tangalle→ Local fishery villages & livelihood tour

Leave the wildlife behind and head to the tranquil south coast, Mirissa or Tangalle, for a well-earned coastal interlude. The afternoon is devoted to exploring colourful local fishing villages, meeting families who depend on the sea and learning about traditional fishing techniques and coastal livelihoods, followed by a relaxed beachside evening.

Day 11 - Whale watching/snorkelling →Turtle conservation & swimming with turtles →Beach relaxation

Head out at dawn for seasonal whale watching, a humbling encounter with the giants of the deep or explore vibrant coral reefs while snorkelling in warm, crystal-clear waters. Visit a turtle conservation project and swim alongside rescued sea turtles in a protected bay. The evening is a peaceful beach meditation.

Day 12 - Galle Fort → Colonial streets, cafés & boutiques→ Colombo

Drive the scenic coastal road north, pausing at the UNESCO-listed Galle Fort for a walking exploration of its cobblestone colonial streets, artisan boutiques, and breezy ocean-view cafes. Continue north to Colombo for a final night in a stylish boutique hotel, reflecting on thirteen days across Sri Lanka.

Day 13 - Bandaranaike International Airport

A leisurely morning before your private transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport for your onward flight home. Carry with you memories of rafting rivers, wildlife encounters, misty highland trains, and the enduring hospitality of an island steeped in nature and ancient culture, until Sri Lanka calls you back once more.
