This full-day trekking experience in the hill-country region takes you to the extraordinary high-altitude plateau of Horton Plains National Park, one of Sri Lanka’s most dramatic and ecologically significant natural environments, for a guided exploration of its most celebrated trails and viewpoints. The highlight of the experience is the 9.5-kilometre circular trail that leads through cloud forest, open moorland and ancient montane vegetation to the breathtaking escarpment of World’s End, where the plateau drops almost vertically for 870 metres, revealing on clear mornings an astonishing panorama extending across the southern lowlands to the distant shimmer of the Indian Ocean. The trail also passes the delightful Baker’s Falls, a beautiful multi-tiered cascade set within a dense forest and offers outstanding opportunities for birdwatching, with numerous endemic species, including the yellow-eared bulbul, Sri Lanka whistling thrush and Dull-blue flycatcher, regularly sighted along the route. The park is best visited very early in the morning before the characteristic mist rolls in and reduces visibility at World’s End, so an early departure is essential for the best experience. All park entrance fees, guide services, transport and a packed breakfast are included in the tour arrangement.
